Here, you will find all the materials that you need to teach the Big Talks for Little People in HPE mental health education program. The units of work are mapped to the curriculum bands, Year 1/2, Year 3/4, Year 5/6.

Before engaging with the unit plan for the year level that you teach, open the Teacher Professional Development slide deck, and work your way through the material in this presentation.

This material will prepare you for teaching the Big Talks program, including explaining how to access the optional student surveys and the optional teacher implementation survey used to evaluate the effectiveness of the program.

Teacher Professional Development and your engagement with the Teacher Resource sheets that we have developed for Big Talks provides you with 2 hours of professional development mapped to Australian Professional Standards for Teachers.

Before starting the delivery of the program to your students, please visit the ‘Introduction to the HPE Program and Teacher Resources‘ folder.

In this folder you will find:

• A comprehensive introductory overview of program developments, structure and expectations.
• Full lesson plans for each of the year group levels.
• Teacher Information Sheets – Recommended reading resources which focus on SEL themes and other aspects of mental health education.
• Literature references and websites used in the HPE program.

In each numbered lesson folder you find:

• A downloadable and lesson plan that can be adapted to suit the needs of classes and individuals.
• A downloadable PowerPoint that provides a visual aid when delivering the lesson.
• An animation which promotes discussion about Social Emotional themes.
• Downloadable activity handout resources that promote engagement and reinforce students’ learning.
